by Simon Candy
In this video, you learn the basics needed for jamming on your guitar.
Learning how to jam on the guitar is one of the best things you can do to improve your playing. It has many benefits and can help you progress faster.
No matter your current level of skill, it's never too early or too late to start jamming. The more you jam, the better you'll become.
In this lesson, I run you through the basics needed to begin jamming on guitar, and what you need to do to acquire them, including:
• Awareness & Time
To jam, you must have great awareness and time. You need to not just interact with other musicians but also react to the various things that can happen when jamming.
• Chords
No need to have a massive chord knowledge/vocabulary, but you do need to have a hold on some basic chords.
• Strumming
Much like chords, some simple basic strumming patterns will enable you to jam with others.
• Reading Charts
Not necessarily needed to jam, but a huge benefit if you can read your way through a chord chart.
• Soloing
You might be happy to just jam rhythm guitar, and that’s completely fine, but we will cover the basics needed to solo when jamming on guitar too.
