How To Play Danny Boy With A Walking Bass Line
by Simon Candy
In this video, you learn how to play an arrangement of Danny Boy that uses a walking bass line throughout.
The form of Danny Boy is A B, meaning there is an A section and a B section to complete the tune. Our arrangement will play through the form of Danny Boy once using a walking bass.
The bass in the A section will walk in 2 before transitioning to a more typical walking bass in the B section where it will walk in 4, adding momentum to the arrangement.
Walking bass is a great technique to apply to your guitar because not only are you playing the bass, but you can also add the harmony (chords) and in the case of our arrangement of Danny Boy, the melody too.
I will demonstrate each section of Danny Boy before breaking it down in great detail, showing you both how to play it and most importantly, how to practice it.
