5 Must Know, Fun To Play Fingerpicking Riffs For Acoustic Guitar

In this video, you learn 5 of my favourite acoustic fingerpicking riffs of all time.
These riffs are in a fingerpicking style but could be adapted to be played with a plectrum. I will break each riff down for you in detail so you know exactly how to practice it. Then I’ll give you an example of the riff being applied in a musical context, so you can learn how to use the riff to create great sounding music.

Fingerpicking Riffs

• Riff 1: E Blues 1
This first riff is based on the Em open position pentatonic scale and is very bluesy.
• Riff 2: E Blues 2
The second riff is another one based on the pentatonic scale, also in E, only this time working higher up the fretboard
• Riff 3: Open String Pentatonic
The third riff is yet another one based on the pentatonic scale only this time in the 7th position and using a special technique involving open strings.
• Riff 4: A7 Jerry Reed Lick
The fourth riff is in the style of the great Jerry Reed and is based on the A7 chord.
• Riff 5: C7 Jerry Reed Lick
The final riff is an open string riff, again in the style of Jerry Reed, and is based on the C7 chord.
