The Magic Arpeggio Exercise That Will Transform Your Guitar Playing - Part 1
by Simon Candy
In this video, I am going to show you an extremely effective way to train arpeggios so you can use them to solo on guitar.
Arpeggios allow you to outline the notes in each chord of the progressions you solo over. This results in very melodic guitar playing because you are outlining the harmony (ie. targeting the notes of the chords) over which you are soloing, both in the context of composing solos as well as improvising.
As great as arpeggios are for your guitar playing, they can also be very daunting because there seems to be so much to think about when using them.
For example, you need to:
• Know the chords that are happening as you solo
• Know what notes are in these chords
• Determine where the notes of the chords are on your guitar
• Create music with these notes
That’s A LOT to think about and do considering all this changes from one moment to the next, leaving you next to no time to calculate all this stuff.
It feels near on impossible!
In this lesson, I show you how to train arpeggios so you CAN do all the above.
Better yet, you will be able to do it within a split second.
This one arpeggio exercise changed my guitar playing forever when I first came across it in 2007.
It took arpeggios from being something I would use to exercise my fingers, to an essential tool for creating beautiful and melodic lines in the solos I played.
