How To Use Voice Leading To Play Better Sounding Chord Progressions On Guitar
by Simon Candy
In this lesson, you learn all about voice leading with the chord progressions you play on guitar. The way you organise the chords you play matters in the sound you get.
In this lesson, I show you examples of great voice leading in the following songs:
• Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
• Jack And Diane - John Cougar Mellencamp
The progressions in both these songs have great voice leading, meaning that the notes of one chord smoothly connect to the notes of the next chord. The smoothness comes from the fact that the notes in both chords are situated very closely together on the fretboard.
Plus, I show you how to train smooth voice leading in your own playing. We will do this with triad shapes up and down the neck of the guitar with a method I like to call “play by position”.
